There’s a lot of confusion over this topic.  People keep wondering why there’s no Flash support on iPhones and iPads.  Considering that some 90% of the market is Windows-centric, I can understand the confusion.  I’ll try to explain here in non-technical, layman’s terms.

Basically, it’s Apple’s position that Flash is buggy, crappy and a huge resource hog.  And they’re right.  The thing is, *most* people’s experience with Flash is on a Windows desktop.  Adobe develops on Windows THEN ports to Mac and Linux, etc.  The Windows implementation is bloated and buggy too, but it’s by far the “best”.  The ports to Mac and Linux are sloppy and far more crappy.  But the problem is that 99.99% of the time, the “slowness” and crashes and such are largely masked.  Hidden.  You don’t REALIZE that it’s Flash causing the problems.  So average end users never equate weirdness and problems with Flash.  And again, it occurs less often in Windows environments.  And, less often on machines where you have lots of processing power, like today’s 2GHz and 3GHz desktops that offset “slowness” issues and further mask them.

But toss it on a Mac or a Linux box and the problems escalate exponentially.

Toss it on a mobile platform running a SIGNIFICANTLY slower, less powerful CPU and the problems are magnified ten fold yet again, compounded.

iPad Thief Fingered

You’ve probably heard about the infamous Colorado thief who stole an iPad from a patron leaving a shopping mall. The patron had wrapped the cords of Apple’s “back pack” style bag around his finger. When the thief ripped the bag away, the cord stripped all of the skin off his finger, down to the bone. It was so bad that he had to have part of the finger removed.

Well, I’m pleased to report that according to police reports, the thief was identified from garage surveillance cameras, and is now behind bars.
